SOLIPSISM SYNDROME
"Solipsism is the belief that the only reality is one's own reality, that anything beyond individual experience is non-existent. Astronauts who endure weeks of weightlessness, delayed communication, claustrophobia and diminished stimulation have the tendency to lose their sense of reality, so to speak, and react to the hostile and cold surroundings of space by conceiving that all external substance is just a product of the imagination.... Any solipsistic potential in these men, I believe, has been exacerbated by the above-mentioned CHETO astronaut training experiment."
-- Dr. Emil Dunn, Resident Psychiatrist, Goddard Flight Center, Maryland, from a letter to NASA Administrator Hank Chilblain, April 1973
